CARGO CAFÉ

Hey! There is a new kid in town. Let me introduce you to Cargo Café (C/ de Muntaner, 73). A handsome, strong and different kind of kid here in Barcelona. No, not the kind of different that you’re mother called you when you were younger. The good different. Like a fresh wind going on. Next to coffee, you can enjoy a lot more here.
The idea of the owner, Paul, was to bring something new to Barcelona. I can tell you he succeed. The interior, the atmosphere, the concept. It’s different, the good one. He had the idea already for a long time and time by time it got more clear and now here it is. The furniture is mostly Danish and you know I am a sucker for Scandinavian design. It’s sturdy and minimalistic, and it works. The wood, the lights and the plants are making the place very cosy. I love the idea of the sofa. Leather seat and a soft pillow hanging on the wall. Amazing! When you walk in you can already see the marble bar and Paul himself or one of the baristas will welcome you warmly. At the moment there are two baristas working here. Two guys, one from Italy and one from Australia. Bringing coffee cultures together huh?

Talking about international. Paul is very international himself. He is British, but grew up in the Middle East and he also lived for eleven years in Amsterdam. Really fun to talk in my own language with him. By creating the name of his place he kept the international vibe going. Cargo is the international term for good transported, like coffee. Cargo comes from the Spanish word ‘cargar’, in the 17th century, which means to charge, load > recharge (recarger). A coffee recharge you, the caffeine. Next to coffee there is also some food on the menu that recharges, like açai.
So recharging by coffee. That’s totally possible here. Cargo Café serves coffee from Nømad Coffee, a roaster from Barcelona. Next to the beautiful La Marzocco, they have equipment like V60 and Aeropress. Enough choice in coffee. Espresso based drinks like espresso, cappuccino, latte, flat white, pour-over and cold brew (aswell by Nømad). The baristas are experienced and will make you happy with their coffee.

You know what I like to have with my coffee? Sugar. But not in my coffee, but next to my beautiful cup of coffee. Like a piece of cake, a cookie, a muffin. Doesn’t matter. It just need to be tasty. Last time I tried some things. The raspberry/coco slice is definitely a keeper. Same as the caramel shortbread.

I also tried the açai bowl, at the inauguration. I am a big fan of healthy and super food. Ate an açai bowl one time before at Flax and Kale. Both were really good. Next to this healthy treat you can also order cold press juices and bagels for a good lunch. If you are still thirsty you can finish with a cocktail or another fancy drink. So, you definitely won’t get bored at Cargo Café and you can sit here all day and treat yourself. Or let you someone treat you!
