From the bar to the road

Ella grew up in the Netherlands and spent fifteen years in hospitality. Her first espresso machine was a Kees van der Westen Mirage, back in 2012. She has worked in coffee ever since.

She started this blog in January 2016 to combine coffee and travel. Each trip became a city guide: where to drink, where to sleep and where to eat.

Barista, trainer and consultant

In 2018 Ella went freelance as a barista, barista trainer and coffee consultant. She worked festivals, throwdowns and café openings, and wrote about all of them here.

Where she has been

• Four years in Barcelona, from the first coffee festival to the latte art throwdowns.
• Five months in Melbourne, the city she calls the capital of specialty coffee.
• Café tours through Berlin, Paris, Oslo and Copenhagen.
• Further afield in Taipei, Chiang Mai and Kuala Lumpur.
